I have never been overly fond of Star Trek although I've enjoyed it in all its incarnations. However I've always appreciated it as being a show that has been forward looking and progressive in it's themes going back to its original form. I always wished it had been more exciting and action packed, which is why I liked DS9 the most. Now comes ST Discovery. And I must say that Discovery is every bit as progressive and forward thinking in all of its themes mixed with a healthy dose of high paced drama. Add to that interesting characters with genuine character arcs where you see them challenged, fail, learn and grow. Frame that within exceptional CGI and VFX for a tV show and you've got a fantastic new incarnation of Star Trek that made Trek a permanent fixture on my calendar. People hate in this show because it includes characters and themes that are "woke" and slander the show as an "sjw" piece, but those haters fail to realize that Gene Roddenbury was the OG SJW and Disco would make him smile.

fantastic science fiction. this is what Ridley Scott wanted to talk about when he did Prometheus and Covenant, but those films were supposed to be Alien films and thematically the "what makes us human?" question just doesn't fit within the cosmic horror theme that made Alien and Aliens work so well. Freed of those constraints, Raised by Wolves is visually stunning, compelling and as thrilling as it is introspective and relatively well acted on all fronts.

probably one of the worst offerings i have seen from Netflix in a long time. What could have been a cool series just drags because of characters that lack charisma and charm and narrative arcs that are just tedious. add in terrible effects, an unrealized world setting and lore and you have a show that left me wondering why i even bothered to finish it. Everything is telegraphed and nothing pays off.
