The show is enjoyable, entertaining and informative. It is produced by Selena's father and sister. The show dives much deeper in to her childhood than the Lopez film. Many so-called "critics" have given the series less than good reviews because they feel like the show does not focus on Selena herself as much. However, telling the story of her family and the band (many of the same people) is appropriate. Her brother AB was extremely important to the success of the band. While early episodes may feel like the "Abraham Show" (her father), that's an accurate depiction of things were by all accounts. The show is about Selena the project, not only about Selena the person.

This is an excellent show. This is an important show. Wonderful insightful writing. Great performances. James Roday is masterful. Despite what you may have heard, there is no other show like it on TV. Don't let the current Rotten Tomatoes score fool you. This is an ABC show. Rotten Tomatoes is owned by NBC-Universal. That's important to keep in mind.
