I was disturbed that a movie made in 2014 would glorify the exploits of soldiers fighting for the Confederacy. This type of depiction lies at the heart of failure to properly deal with the history of slavery and the racism that has continued to this day. While they may have fought heroically as bothers in arms. there can be no question about the ultimate cause that they were fighting for, that is the preservation of slavery. While they should not be vilified, they should not be glorified either. I suspect there are no military academies in Germany glorifying the exploits of German soldiers who fought in the Second World War, despite the fact that many fought heroically as bothers in arms.
