This is a fantastic album of songs. From the lead-off homerun of "No Erasin'" to the close-out of "We Fly" this is a triumphant return to the spotlight for Steve Perry. This album, the first of new material since 1994's For The Love Of Strange Medicine, feels like a natural progression in his book of releases. Of course you can hear his influence from Journey in a few of the songs, most notably "We're Still Here", "No More Cryin'", and "You Belong To Me". I can also hear the ghost of Lincoln Brewster on "No Erasin'" and "Most Of All". Steve's love of Motown is heard in quite a few songs as well; the most since his first solo album Street Talk. Traces is an emotionally charged album, and can make you feel, if you let it catch you off guard. Steve may not be able to hit super high notes anymore, but this album reaffirms why he should always be known as "The Voice".
