Morbid Realism! If watching talented actors framed with beautiful cinematography
relay traumatic, humorless, hopeless & often unnecessarily violent tales about two virtuous lead characters is your thing then this series maybe for you…. I personally think that Hollywood might invest its energies & its billions into scripts that offer at least a smattering of Hope & humor. We seem to live in an era ( the Information Age?) where causing even more “OUTRAGE” is so ‘ON TREND’ with the media. BBC & Amazon partnered on this project and I think they owe its viewers something better. It is my personal hope that this trend burns itself out because many of us us are sick to the back teeth of it. After my 61 years on this planet it is my experience that even in the darkest of times there are moments of hope and humor. This series is 1. Hard to follow (keeps you watching) 2. historically inaccurate (Emily Blunts character would have been closely chaperoned coming from a titled English family of that era. 3. Uses endless pregnant pauses 4. Poorly written dialogues…. All in the name of being artsy & profound. I watched this show twice hoping for a message/meaning and didn’t find any. Yes post Civil War America had & still has problems with violence, racism, corruption, greed, sexism, and financial inequality. It’s time that people in the media realized that CREATING EVEN MORE OUTRAGE does not do anything to improve these problems. Just sayin’
