Disappointed. Could have been much better.

I was never a fan of the Ms Marvel character and after some really weak MCU offerings, I was skeptical about this series. But Marvel took a very different tack on this series and I have to say it shows promise. Clearly aimed at a younger demographic, it’s well written, Iman and the rest of the cast are solid (the mom and dad are great), and the direction is creative. All in all really well done. I’d say the weakest aspect is the FX.

High hopes after Mando and Boba but weak writing, casting, and directing make this a disappointing series so far. Episode 3 was an inexcusable mess. Moses is a great actor (superb in Queen’s Gambit) but here her character Reva is flat/one dimensional. Obi-wan just always looks frightened and confused and the writers make him look stupid. Plot gaps are numerous (why didn’t they just walk around the laser gate?). Overall, it’s an embarrassingly lame effort.
