Hey Ramite here from "The Dissecting Guye" DISSECTING - ANNIHILATION Director - Alex Garland Review - Alex Garland made a bouquet of Extraterrestrial thing , Area X Lighthouse , Oily Shimmering Canopy , Archived Secret , Singularity , Unidirectional Mutation , Loss of Individually , Counter Reality : then suddenly coming out of everything and making the world normal by tearing apart every single flower of the bouquet, is basically the whole thing covered in this movie. Every single aspect is not the best explained here but hey! it's the whole feel of the movie that you get after watching matters and I think in that case it pretty much nailed it as a Sci-fi. If you find any of the mentioned stuff giving you excitement then this Visual Masterpiece from Alex Garland should be in your watchlist. Storyline - The movie starts with an Extraterrestrial flaming object invading earth and striking at a lighthouse in Area X creating a mysterious-oily-multi color-shimmer which starts gulping everything inside it day by day and changing them into a singular mutation which has a very common source. Shortly after the scene the movie shows Leena (Natalie Portman) under interrogation which is absolutely a part showing the end of the movie but creates the motive pretty successfully. Then suddenly the scene changes into Leena in her house crying thinking of her husband Kane (Oscar Isaac) who reunites with her in the most inexplicable way possible after being vanished for about 12 months. These sudden changes in scene were pretty successful to keep the mind busy throughout the movie where the pace of the movie changes a lot. Leena after her service in the Army joined Johns Hopkins as a biologist and where she went in a secret relationship with Daniel ( David Gyasi) , after staying alone for a long time, which Leena regretted so much later on in the movie. Though Leena met with her long lost husband whom everyone thought to be dead except her, she knew that something wasn't right in the whole thing as Kane wasn't able to answer anything about what he was doing in those months. All he said was he wasn't feeling well. He fell sick, and it turned out to be the pivoting point of the movie, they got chased down in the ambulance by a couple of black cars and helicopters, and through this only Leena got introduced to Area X where everything was happening behind the curtain . Leena got highly sedated and woke up feeling drowsy in a cell with Dr. Ventress (Jennifer Jason Leigh) . Leena got to know about the shimmer pretty soon, she started connecting the dots of what actually happened with her husband Kane , a team of 5 [ Leena, Dr. Ventress, Anya ( Gena Rodriguez), Jose Radek ( Tessa Thompson), Cass Shepard ( Tuva Novotny) ] get formed for the expidition into the shimmer in the Florida swampland to find out what it was really about and what was the source of it all.
