Most people in these low star reviews probably haven't read or seen Antigone by Sophocles, Antigone is supposed to die, it is a tragedy, other wise it wouldn't be called Antigone. This film is not a take on Canadian law, it a take on the Ancient Greek play Antigone, and if anyone has said otherwise it's clearly out of a different place that doesn't have anything to do with art and more about politics and immigration as it seems. Laws affect people and that's what Antigone is really about in the original play and in this film. This film has a different take on that character, she has a backstory with a different cultural diaspora attached to it. The acting is superb, it's wonderful to see different stories being told while connecting it to a source of theatre where it also started, (most commonly Ancient Greek Tragedies and Comedies). Every culture has something to add to make Antigone different and I really enjoyed seeing the whole cast making their characters authentically theirs with their own identities combined. Wonderful work, the experience of this film deserves to be shared! But also art is subjective, I just wanted to clarify before anyone watches and for anyone that watched, sorry for the spoiler, but also the spoiler has been there for centuries.
