This movie is spectacular and majestic. It's on par with Jodha Akhbar and Padmavat. I enjoy historical period movies and I absolutely loved this movie. Jay J Jakkrit(Chinali) and Arjun Sarja (ananthan) stole the show. This is an absolute masterpiece and it's disappointing that many Indians don't appreciate this historical masterpiece (I'm aware of the large amount of cinematic liberty taken by the director) as it bombed in the box office. As usual, Indians only like superficial masala fantasy film's like bahubali and such and have zero appreciation for history. The visuals are stunning and the ensemble casts (venu, Harish, siddique, Pranav, ashok, Sunil Shetty, prabhu etc) acting and presence is strong. The female artistes were wasted in this movie. Mohanlal as Kunjali Marakkar could have lost weight for the role as his stature doesn't look convincing in the fight scenes and as a warrior. Chinalis character being ethnic Chinese should have had straight hair, not curly hair as potrayed. The Portuguese characters speaking in English with a strange Jamaican accent is laughable. I understand why the director chose to make the Portuguese speak in English but they could have omitted the ridiculous accent. Sunil Shetty and Arjun looked convincing and majestic as warriors. Mohanlals acting wasn't to the standard he had set in the past. Infarct it was rather dull and underwhelming. Otherwise, the special effects, sets and costumes are very impressive. The National Award this movie won is well deserved. I truly despised Achutan character in this movie. Two things this movie proved - 1)Muslims praying 5 times a day often at inconvenient times causes more trouble than good and is impractical and inconvenient in daily life.
2)Indians are the consummate traitors regardless of what religion they are (moideen, Achutan, panickers). This deep-seated cheap treacherous attitude is what made such a rich and great country with abundant resources like India being easily colonised and enslaved by western colonisers for 400 years. Unfortunately this slave mentality still exists among Indians today.
