We watched this movie in class, and the blending of "times" so to speak does not work as well as they most likely planned. I love shakespearian plays, but this movie is a terrible representation of the play. The cast is colorful and diverse, but these wonderful actors are put to waste. The movie would have gotten a far better rating from me if they had loosely based the script on the original, and changed it to modern language. The pacing was terrible. Some things went far too fast and far too slow. The movie was loud and hard to follow. Far too much happens at the beginning of the movie, starving the viewer of exposition. Most people know the tale of the two star-crossed lovers, however if a new generation of fans came along, it would turn anyone off to Shakespeare. And for some reason all of the cast are wet? The movie goes on, as all the characters are soggy. It makes them hard to look at. It makes the characters less likeable than they already are. Anyways, a 2/5 stars. I give the 2 stars to the cast. The script didn't fit with the setting, and the directing is terrible.
