I am enjoying Borgen very much. Yet as an American I find the depiction of the Danish characters at times really hard to take. It's seemingly all about function as opposed to actual affection and deep relationships. Husband taking over jobs in US normally relegated to women is a great aspect of the show. Wife as prime minister clearly demonstrates the difficulty of the job as increasing demands are made upon her. There is apparently no trustworthy staff to, for example, read the info about the proposed jet purchase and write a synopsis. Not much help at the office then. Since Birgitte obviously has a good salary, hiring help at home would seem a no brainer. Yet no one seems to express love for one another either. No one tells the children, I love you. Perhaps I can't read other cultural signals that would be helpful. But I increasingly find myself speaking aloud to improve the dialog. I wish there were a sane person here in the US to make decisions about large military purchases. Men love big toys but that doesn't mean they should have them, right?
