Wonderful cast. First few episodes gripping. But script writers and producers list the plot at the end. Not actors faults. Final episode was a mish mash of gushy happily ever after unreality and pinning the murder blame on wrong suspect How would the pedantic intelligent diligent detective (Nicola Walker) settle for that? Unbelievable. I felt like I wasted a few hours of my life for nothing.

Although I watched this compelling drama previously, I am in the midst of binge watching again. The writing and delivery of lines by actors is exquisite. It combines in depth portraits of characters in fast moving storylines with witty humour which is engrossing. The characters, flawed as they may be, are watchable and likeable. Performances by all actors are worthy of high praise however the lead actors Sarah Lancashire, Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi and Nicola Walker are incredible and I simply can't understand why this drama did not win more accolades at the BAFTAs. Thoroughly recommend.

Unlike other readers, I am not a fan of Pointless, in fact I find it extremely annoying! I purchased this book at Edinburgh Airport John Smith as a holiday read and I really enjoyed it cover to cover. There is no need to give a detailed synopsis of the storyline as other readers have covered this eloquently but suffice to say, I found the book well written, witty and charming. I have nonagenerian parents so relate very well to the characters' antics and although they may seem far fetched to some readers, believe me, every day is a surprise with my mum and dad. The main thing is they hold on to memories of their work and achievements of the past and they try their hardest to relive it. My 91 year old dad still thinks he could drive an HGV and if there was one parked outside their sheltered home he'd be hijacking it. Well done Richard for taking your insights and creating this enjoyable piece of work.
