Unlike other readers, I am not a fan of Pointless, in fact I find it extremely annoying!
I purchased this book at Edinburgh Airport John Smith as a holiday read and I really enjoyed it cover to cover. There is no need to give a detailed synopsis of the storyline as other readers have covered this eloquently but suffice to say, I found the book well written, witty and charming.
I have nonagenerian parents so relate very well to the characters' antics and although they may seem far fetched to some readers, believe me, every day is a surprise with my mum and dad. The main thing is they hold on to memories of their work and achievements of the past and they try their hardest to relive it. My 91 year old dad still thinks he could drive an HGV and if there was one parked outside their sheltered home he'd be hijacking it.
Well done Richard for taking your insights and creating this enjoyable piece of work.
