Napoleon is portrayed with only his negatives, and the movie skips everything that I think to be relevant about Napoleon's relevance in history. In this movie, he is a bumbling, tripping over steps, emotional train-wreck with his soldiers mumbling behind his back with him being devoid of any decent characteristics as a person. Sure he had his flaws, but this movie shows nothing of how he captivated a nation, his mesmerizing speeches, his brilliance on the battlefield and his ability to motivate his troops to unreal proportions. This movie goes from his being terrified on the battlefield, to his crying on Josephine at the mention of his mother, ignores the brilliance of 10 years of campaigning, and goes back to his shortcomings as a husband. It misses everything relevant to why the French might have given him the consulship, or why every serious historian grades him as a top 5 all time General. Oh and the scene where he stands on a box in Egypt? This was pure British propaganda. Even the armchair historian knows that Napoleon wasn't even short. He was just a bit above average for the time. Absurd. Terrible movie if you care one iota about actual history.
