It was ok.
The animation and songs were great, they were the only few things I enjoyed. Some scenes were actually really good, I loved the train station scene where the guy and girl (can’t remember their names-) had that awkward moment, the whole cinema laughed which doesn’t usually happen
However, the plot was a whole other story (haha- jokes)
I found myself looking at my friend who I went there with looks of confusion and slight cringe but mainly confusion and concern. A lot of “what the heck is happening right now??”
The plot points felt disconnected ? And also felt as if they tried to tackle WAY too many.
A lot of the plot points which I thought were going to be relevant weren’t that important in the end such as the MC’s grief over her mother, her damaged relationship with her father, self esteem issues, being unable to sing, her childhood friend who’s also her crush etc etc.
It felt like a different movie at times, I found myself rolling my eyes a bit too much.
The side characters were extremely underdeveloped, I didn’t find myself attached to them as I did to the main character. I also didn’t feel too immersed in the world itself, sometimes it lacked realism (and yeah- it’s a movie of course it’s not going to be totally realistic) but it just lacked something.
The beauty and the beast trope was okay, it had a cool spin on it but whenever ‘The Beast’ was so aggressive towards Belle and she just kept going like ?? Girl. Please. Stop. 😭
And in the end it’s not like just jumping on a train to Tokyo and hugging these boys will fix their home life ???
And who would let a Highschool girl go on a train to TOKYO by herself ?? With no bag ?? Money ?? Food ?? NOTHING ????
And the main villain - severely underdeveloped once again. The only reason he was a threat was because he has that weapon thing and she didn’t want to reveal her identity and stuff but everything was so explicit, Belle full on went “u just want to control everyone” but what was even his motive , I didn’t understand what the rest of that whole superhero team were for, they’re just zooming about ??
It just felt as though they liked all the ingredients for a sandwich, jam, butter, nutella, slap some lettuce on there too oh yes maybe some mayo - and sure they may be good ingredients but they don’t all work when slapped together ?? Now it’s just a big fat sandwich that tastes bad and you can barely put it in your mouth. Thats how the movie felt, too many storylines that were squeezed together.
It just felt very jumbled and I was very concerned but the songs are very nice , I’ll be listening to the soundtrack lol
