Ergo Proxy definitely leaves me with mixed reviews. Like the WHOLE aim of the anime could have been summed up in the last 2 episodes. The message that they tried to send was that in which was synonymous to "The Giver" (and if you don't know about the Giver, the end message was "think Yourself /Don't live like a mindless drone"—I respect that). However, the fact that they tried to make it overly complex was what didn't sit well with me. It was a bother. Like The Giver sent out that whole message and it kept the reader engaged. Ergo Proxy was one of those anime that just tried too hard if you asked me. It was slow developing all around with spits of excitement and action, but for some reason, I just couldn't put it down. It may have been due to the fact of the philosophical questions that they threw in there, which I am a sucker for.
A minor gripe is when they NEEDED bright lights for the viewer to see what's going on, they didn't have it. There were some parts in there that I would have liked to see but it was too dark.

************************
Long story short to this (what the show was actually about) there was a being named Ergo Proxy who created a world and because he was ashamed of the result, ran away from his responsibilities as the world God and made an Alter ego. Along the way, it was a self journey for him to figure out who he really was (which was the second point of this whole anime). However, the whole gist of it all was summed up in the last 2 episodes. For what it's worth, I didn't mind the drag out of the story, but the creators could have at least made it exciting.
And don't give me the whole "those who don't understand it won't like it" sphiel cause I did, it was just a show that had great potential, but kind of failed to deliver.
