I know that after this review there will be someone who fully disagrees with what I have to say.
But, I absolutely loved this movie. Since watching the film, I looked into the story, actors, basically whatever went into the production. The actors, Michele Morrone and Anna Marie Sieklucka (if I spelled that correctly) are quite new in their own film industries respectively and have done an amazing job connecting with all fans. Also, I watched this prior to it's arrival on Netflix which I understood happened after the popularity of the film on Tik Tok, which is where I was introduced. I am patiently awaiting the translation of the 365 dni, a Polish Book Series by Blanka Lipniska. By the way, 'dni' means days in English. Also, the movie is the first part of the 3 part book ongoing book series, with a 4 part coming soon.
As far as the movie goes, I would say that agree with Massimo's Near Death Experience at the beginning and Laura's life needs to be a bit more explained. But, I'm guessing the book would help to explain that. Also, I thought that Massimo and Anna's relationship could have been explained as well. However, the movie reminded me of Beauty and the Beast. For those who have watched the film, the dinner scene after they went shopping reminded me of the scene when Beast showed Bella the library in an effort to show his gentle side as advised by Lumiere. The film can easily be seen as romanticizing kidnapping and Stockholm Syndrome. But, Guess What? So did Beauty and the Beast. Bella was basically kidnapped as she offered to take her father's place in captivity by the Beast and given a time limit of when the last petal of the Rose dropped to the Beast with her love. Massimo kidnaps Laura and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. If I remember correctly, Bella admitted her love for the Beast as soon as the last petal dropped. I feel that it is unfair to just limit the potential of a great film by just diminishing it to a couple of sex scenes that viewers believe to be 50 Shades of Grey. In 50 Shades, Christian Grey sees Anna as a new submissive whom he falls in love with. Their contract was consensual and had no relation what so ever to kidnapping and to class these two films together not only discredits the actors who worked diligently, but also discredits the authors behind the concept. It discredits their originality and uniqueness just because they pushed the envelope to add a couple sex scenes that was different than what normally happens.
