Ok I’m going to go into details later so if you haven’t seen it and don’t want it ruined here’s a spoiler-free review from yours truly. The film has interesting ideas, but the pacing is weird and leaves a lot to be desired. I give it a 20% rating.
CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD DO NOT READ IF YOU AREN’T READY
Although the idea of someone being able to manipulate their own kidnapper from within a cage is interesting, this film left me disappointed due to the lack of a protagonist and any likable/relatable villains.
While Holly seems to be an opportunistic killer(with the exception of killing her friend in rage) and Seth only kills after being urged to by Holly, what sparked this seems unclear to me. I know he was only going to kidnap her after learning about what she was doing, but why was he so obsessed with her in the first place? A flashback to high school (where he first saw her)or him talking to someone about this girl who was so ✨💖amazing 💖✨he couldn’t stop thinking about her would have helped a LOT.
Also, PLOT HOLES. This film has them.
How did she get out without being noticed? Did she leave in just her tank top and underwear, or did she steal Seth’s blood-soaked uniform? Either choice would have been shocking to passerby and prompted questions and/or calling the police.
How did Seth survive being stabbed in the neck AND losing a finger in the same day? Even if the stab wound wasn’t fatal, the blood loss from the two injuries would likely cause his death(since even if for some reason she went out and realized she was in a dog shelter, she would still have to find the medical supplies in the veterinary office and get back in time to save him).
How did she have the energy to stab her friend after being impaled with glass? I know she had a lot of adrenaline in her system, but she still had a large shard of glass several inches into her abdomen.
How was she NOT charged with at least involuntary manslaughter of her friend? Did she put Claire’s body in the driver’s seat to make it look like she was the one driving? Even if she DID do that, did no one suspect foul play? Did she even claim it was an accident, or did she hide the body? Was Claire ever reported as missing? If she was, wouldn’t Holly have been a suspect due to the evidence that she knew her boyfriend was cheating on her with Claire?
How did all the dogs eat the man Seth served them? There were just no sick dogs? No dogs that weren’t ready to go from dry food to raw, bloody meat? Even if all the dogs were hungry enough to eat it, why didn’t anyone else notice that a bunch of dogs had blood around their mouths?
Why doesn’t Seth ever walk the dogs? Does someone else walk the dogs? If so, wouldn’t they have noticed the human flesh the dogs were being served?
Why wasn’t Holly reported as missing? Did anyone even notice she was missing?
What happened with the detective investigating the murder of his coworker? Did he just give up? Was someone falsely convicted?
Why didn’t the detectives go through the entire building? It was the last place a man was seen!
ANYWAY.....although I did not like this movie, it gave me a lot to think about. I’ve never written a movie review before, but this was fun and I hope that this helps you out.
