Dwitiyo Purush in one word can be described as a forced thriller at its best! Srijit mukherjee has this urge to be called a thriller maestro for whatever reason.. This worked in movies like Baishe Srabon or Chotushkone. But just for the sake of making a sequel/spin-off to a cult, poor writing can't be justified! No, not all is bad in dwitiyo purush. The film may not be well scripted but it is well made to a certain extent, the cinematography, camera, direction is quite good. The performances are also good- param and anirban held on to this department sucessfully! The songs, although not breathtaking as baishe srabon, are good and can be listened to. But none of those were enough. There was a thoght process associated with baishe srabon which involved bengali culture, literature and modern poetry revolution of bengal perfectly mixed up with a crime thriller plot. One can give credit to BUMBA DA for the unforgettable potryal of prabir roychowdhury which lead to grand success. All of these factors were completely missing in dwitiyo purush! It just came up as a follow up with a thriller stamp attached to it! The moments of revisiting the param-raima-abir love triangle tragedy and glimpse of prabir da's words in flashback are pure bliss and acts as one of the saving graces of the movie! The ending is somewhat twisted and bizarre but unlike baishe, it does not click that much or fails to uplift the script shortcomings, rather it makes you looking for more or what happens next. You don't need to desperately push a thriller and make it psychologically twisted! Baishe srabon was indeed one of my favourite movies and I literally was looking forward to this one. But got actually quite disappointed after watching... Trust me you will feel the same if you are a genuine fan of baishe and were looking for a really good following!!!
Added one extra star for stellar performances from param and anirban!
