I don’t know where to begin…
I was really excited when I heard that they were making another Suicide Squad movie, because, (and I know that a lot of people don’t agree with me) I LOVED the first one.
Harley Quinn was my favorite character, and I really enjoyed the dynamic she shared with Will Smiths Deadshot, as well as her crazy romance with the Joker.
When I watched the first one, the chemistry that the characters had with each other made me feel like they were a family, and it was sort of the same thing with new squad, but… not?
It’s all well and good to add some new characters, and I’m not saying that EVERYBODY has to return to make it a good movie, but the fact that Harley, Flag, Amanda and Boomer were the only ones to return from the last movie is kind of sad. And I was so heartbroken when Boomer died after like 2 seconds of screen time!
I was watching with my family and at one point I looked over at all of them and we were all on our phones. We all agreed that none of us could follow the plot, it felt like half of the scenes were just space fillers because they didn’t have enough actually relevant scenes to fill up the time. It was unnecessarily long and did not hold my attention at all.
I felt like Harley was barley in the movie at all, and when she was I felt like she could have been used so much better. And the new characters were just a little stupid. The characters that didn’t have powers had the same skills, and I just have to say it, Peacemakers outfit was kind of childish. The new additions that did have powers were even worse. Whoever heard of puking polkadots!?
I feel bad because I know that the actors in the movie worked hard on this, but I feel like this movie took away all of the originality and good parts of the first.
I don’t know how this movie got such good reviews, I get that a lot of people did not like the first installment, but the directing style was just completely different to the first and it was just to hard to ignore.
Overall, I’d say that there are plenty of better ways to spend the two hours of your life that this movie asks for.
