This film has a great concept, great cast. It was very entertaining. However, the idea that Mackie's character would continue to risk his life for his partner's family - not his own family, but his partner's family - seems hard to believe or accept. Where was his extended family? If not his parents or siblings, what about other family or close friends that he'd like to see before he died? Why was his partner's family worth an ultimate sacrifice? NO. Nah. It doesn't sit right with me. Especially since the character is Black and had to deal with being recognized as a "slave" throughout the film. *And don't get me wrong, I love Mackie's work. But we've seen the "Black guy risking his life for white character" films over and over again.* There are racial undertones that went unaddressed. Friends are great but, seriously?
