The question is not whether Joker is a brilliant film. It is. The question is how does it match up with what I still consider the greatest comic book movie on film. The Dark Knight. Sadly it falls short. The tension in this film builds but that leads to a beginning that may be a drag for some. With all the talk of violence in the film there was not much. The violence there is in the film is very realistic which could be the reason for the left wing hate but who really knows what that’s about. The overall mood is very uncomfortable and while The Dark Knight could be universally enjoyed, I would never ever show this film to a child. This is not a knock on the film at all. It is the reality that this film was meant to be enjoyed by adults and it earns it’s R rating.
