Woke drivel. Unnecessary gay sex scenes are off putting. The racial dynamics weren’t properly addressed. Apparently in the late 1800s white people were just a bit passively uncertain of people of color and under extreme circumstances rude to them. Well, at least according to this show. The story tried to present anyone who is racist as devious, dark and evil. It just reads as revisionist.

The creators forgot the part where you add the plot to the movie. There is no arc, no balance of good and bad, zero nuance at all to the the main character’s struggles. Rather than painting a picture this movie spells out everything for you so that it stings your nostrils. The movie’s creators filmed this as if they were too cool to utilize traditional story telling techniques. The end result is a movie that is neither unsettling enough to be a thriller nor dramatic enough to be a drama. It’s a plotless and mediocre short story, a 3 month glimpse into a privileged life wherein the movie leads up to nothing, only to celebrate the main character as a hero for aborting her child.
