Visuals, and design are beautiful. Cinematic beauty! The only reason I made it through to the end. Sadly, the story falls flat BADLY.
Slight spoilers: (nothing the adverts won’t tell you)
It Feels like a hurried slap together of different plots, that all fall short! With incomplete character formation that ruined the “love story with a vampy twist” storyline.
This film could have been so amazing; great actors, great chemistry all ruined by perpetual “cliches” that made my eyes continually roll throughout the film. It’s embarrassing! What a waste of beautiful actors, sets, scenes, filming, photography and creative team.
What really ruins this film is the blatant social, cultural (omg Brits will be cringing the whole time) and economic stereotyping that instead of adding to the storyline, or being thought provoking, comes across as racist, sexist and condescending (yes, racism and sexism are bidirectional).
Anyways, so much potential to be ruined by dumbing down of what could have been a great story. It’s utterly painful.
I’m a massive fan of the gothic, thriller horror genre. I’d have even been ok if it were made into comedy horror, anything but this woke crap (and I’m pretty woke).
Anyways, if you want to see a movie with similar plot watch “Ready or Not”. Similar premise but they absolutely nailed it!
I mean watch for the cinematic beauty if you like. It’s very well done.
