I've played this game consistently for around 6 years now. I am mostly a PvP player and I casually PvE. This game has always managed to keep me playing, truly addicting. The PvE in this game has a lot to offer for new players and a lot to work for in order to become strong. The game underwent a revamp that his opened up many avenues and styles of play in PvE to accommodate several kinds of players. The game features multiple different types of powers and weapons and has a massive amount of styles (clothing, auras, accessories, etc.) for you to customize your character to your liking in a way I have not seen in any other game. If you like PvE, you like challenges, and/or you like customization such as putting together your own builds and styles, the game has plenty of this to offer. The revamp changed PvE for the better ultimately, but came at the cost of severely diluting PvP. PvP matchmaking is divided between Arenas (where you get to fight using your own character) and Legends (where you get to fight as a DC Comic Book character). Arenas had all of the counter mechanics that made it great years ago removed, so now it's basically PvE that involves spamming other players. But Legends, while not exactly perfect, is the only remnant of the old school PvP left in this game. A kind of PvP that while easy to learn, is difficult to master, but is so rewarding and exhilarating when you do. It may be the most unique kind of PvP I have ever seen in an MMO like this. This is strictly Legends. I'd say if you like PvE, try this game. If you like PvP, check out videos of high-level Legends matches to see if you think it's interesting. If you do, definitely try this game. It has a nice skillgap for you to aspire to overcome. If you PvP, and even to an extent in PvE, you may encounter some players that are toxic and not nice to play with. Don't take it seriously. You can get this from both Heroes and Villains, but you can largely avoid players like this by staying out of their chats, staying away from their leagues, and overall just not associating with them. They can still talk to you in Versus chat, but it's your choice if you want to have that enabled or not. Some toxicity is to be expected from any game with competitive elements. If you're considering letting a child play this game, it may not be a good option unless you disable all chat and voice chat features. Language is not well regulated in multiplayer settings. There are many ways to play this game, but like many games, certain powers, weapons, and loadouts reign king as the most optimal. If you find yourself attracted to a certain power, weapon type, etc. but find it is not meta, do your research to see what hidden potential it may have. You might find something that works for you. Finally, as a free-to-play game, it will hamstring you if you choose not to spend money. Other reviews provide a harrowing take on the expense involved in this game and despite my enjoyment, they are largely true. I'd say combine playing a little bit as a F2P player with videos of high-level gameplay on both the PvE and PvP side (make sure these videos are within the last 6 months or so) and decide for yourself if this game is truly worth your time and wallet, and what you should spend money on.
