There's a lovely portrait of the author, Octavia Walton Le Vert, painted by Thomas Sully at the Oakleigh House in Mobile, Alabama. I recommend a visit to this historic home. Le Vert writes detailed portrayals in "Souvenirs of Travel," and I remember some of the book's descriptions with acute visual recall, as she wrote so well.
