The Kashmir Files is a movie that relies solely and heavily on the truth and real life plight of the Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s. I’d watched this movie last week with my friends in a local theatre in Pune. And believe me when I say, this movie is exactly what this society needs!
There were no unnecessary songs in this movie, no half-naked ladies dancing around for no apparent reason, no grooming. Just. Pure. Truth.
The Acting of each and every actor and actress was phenomenal and poured life into their characters. The movie starts off with a child, Shiva Pandit, playing cricket and cheering when he hears on a radio that Sachin hits a sixer. He is attacked by adults, continuously bashed for “being a traitor” and the story goes on, showing how ruthlessly the Kashmir pandits were assaulted, making them refugees in their own state.
The character of Krishna Pandit (played by darshan kumar) mirrored the blunt, hypocritical personality of Indian Leftists, stating that the Kashmir incident was an “exodus” and not a genocide, and people who are brainwashed into believing that the Pandits were at fault.
Radhika Menon’s character, meanwhile showed how a person can easily brainwash other people by altering the truth HEAVILY, and victimizing the assasins and the cruel. Only the people who were present there know how traumatic and disturbing the genocide was. This movie targeted the never-ending atrocities inflicted upon the Kashmiri Pandits by the Muslims, who were once their friends, neighbours and colleagues. Every single scene of this movie is so utterly heartbreaking, and what’s more sad is that this movie isn’t even HALF of what the Kashmiri pandits were forced to face.
Farooq Bitta was labelled as a “misunderstood person” because he killed “only 20–25, who were in fact part of RSS” is based off Yasin Malik, who killed thousands of Kashmiri Pandits to give “freedom” to Kashmir and is being defended by leftists. He was called to give many “peace talks” ; his bitta’s character showed, even though after murdering an astonishing numbers of a peaceful, innocent community, he got away with everything and is being victimized.
Sharada Pandit. All the barbaric things she was forced to bear broke my heart into literal pieces.
Pushkar Nath pandit, was one of the only survivors of the genocide, but was never able to go back to his homeland, never saw justice being served to all the Kashmiri Pandits. Never got justice himself. Never got to see Article 370 being removed.
To all the people calling this a “propoganda film” I’ll just leave this answer here, and implore you to think, how many Bitta Karate ‘s have been victimized, how many Sharada Pandit’s had been assaulted and how many Pushkarhath’s are still waiting for the justice they deserve. If you still feel this movie showed “lies” , I am not sorry to say, you are no better than the people who killed the Kashmiri Pandits, and you are part of the reason they are still not getting justice, and you are the real threats to the society :)
So basically, go watch it
