The visual style looks wonderful and the music is great. The battle system is fun. The characters are the stories are neither great nor fun. I have never played any RPG that has left my eyes glazed over by how unattached to the characters I was. The gimmick with have eight different stories to explore wears very thin when those stories all suck. For a game with such weak stories, I feel like the characters should have been merged together into one single character and had a custom character creator and filtered more of these one-dimensional personalities into the NPCs, who were all also dreadfully bland.
