The fact that I read the book first is the reason why I appreciate, and also why I can't stand, this movie. Reading the book left me dying to see a film with these characters and to see the wanders, and the movie fullfilled that. But, the movie was nothing like the book, the book was 1000x better and I feel that if I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't really understand 50% of what happened from the movie.
*Spoiler alert*
The book is so much deeper and does a way better job representing mental health and the aftermath of suicide. She cries a little and then dances with her friends in a field? No, she's a wreck, feeling like she's been punched in the gut, blaming herself for months. It's raw and it's real and heart wrenching. I wish they would redo this movie and make it more like the book.
