Having loved DA for years I always thought each episode had the visual and thematic depth exclusive to itself. I expected the movie to follow suit. In a word: NOPE. The plotline is very thin and most of it feels forced. The subplots were predictable...Edith has a minor crisis, Carson knows everything, Mrs Crawley issues a few zingers, Thomas is gay, and Mrs Patmore cooks something. Visually it's beautiful, which is notable. I always want to leave the theater feeling like I've been transported into another time and place. Instead, I watched the film waiting for it to improve...for it to actually go somewhere. This time, for me, I would have been satisfied with seeing the film on Netflix. It just doesn't live up to it's PBS reputation.
