First and foremost, the entire purpose of any good movie is to ENTERTAIN. So whenever I watch a film and I'm so depressed by the first half-hour that I want to jump off a bridge, I discontinue watching and never return. Since this movie's first 30-minutes were nothing more than a study in dark depression, suffering, and pain, I mercifully ending the viewing and did not return.

One of the best low budget sci fi films of all time, in my humble opinion.... what the heck, of all time, period. The casting, the script, the action, the story, the direction, all first rate. But what makes this film even more noteworthy, is how the director, Jack Sholder, brings a degree of humanism to the genre rarely seen, if ever. This movie is worthy of the term, "cult classic," and bears watching again, and again. SEE IT.

I was literally shocked at the number of negative comments concerning this film, proving how incredibly STUPID most movie reviewers are. I thought it was a terrific action/disaster film, with a stellar cast, a great story line, and incredible production values throughout. One of the most memorable and enjoyable parts of the film was the beautiful and understated score by John Horner, one of his best. I thought Mimi Leder directed it deftly and magnificently, and I have watched this film many times, enjoying it each and every time. Catch it!!
