Truly a grotesque show: equal parts beautiful, horrific, and funny as hell. It’s a gay gothic romance, masquerading as your run of the mill crime procedural. Visually stunning, this show started the trend of chiaroscuro on tv (but it’s the only one that does it right by balancing the really dark shadows with points of light). Will is heartbreaking and charming, as we watch his Becoming. And the incomparable Mads Mikkelsen who plays Hannibal as Lucifer, winking and nudging the audience. Truly up there with Twin Peaks, Mind Hunter, The Terror, and True Detective season 1.
