Read closely as I explain why this game was GAME OF THE YEAR. —SPOILERS— People are having trouble with understanding Joel’s decisions and making comments like “Joel was selfish” and “when he killed all those people to save Ellie in TLOU was unjustified and he deserved to die”. People who are making these statements obviously do not understand what Joel has been through and will not allow himself to go through again. The only negative in this game my peers and myself could find was that we believe that Joel’s death was less than an honorable one that he should have received. It was inevitable that Joel was going to die in part 2 but not like that. It is also baffling that people miss that fact that Joel watched his own blood daughter die in front of him and he was helpless to do anything. This time around he has found himself loving this girl that he swore he would just drop off like a package but instead he realized he loved her like she was his own daughter and was not going to let someone else end her life short. The doctor who was assigned to the task to make the vaccine and do the operation that would kill Ellie couldn’t even say himself that he would’ve offered his own daughter up(Abby) if she was the one that was immune. Outside of that, the storyline was impeccable. That game looks and beautiful and felt fluid. Plenty of unexpected events like jesse’s death, dina’s pregnancy, and Mel’s death kept you constantly on the edge of your seat. The moments that made me want to start praying things this isn’t true and kept my eyes glued to the screen were scenes like the ambush on tommy and Joel when Joel dies, Mel and Owen’s death, and yara’s death when she kills issac. Let’s not forget the amazing internal conflict naughty dogs places inside of us when we had to fight Ellie as Abby. Not wanting to hurt Ellie then praying that Abby doesn’t kill Dina and doesn’t say something like “well you killed my pregnant friend and now I’m gunna kill yours”. I also find that people being upset with the game because of the level of brutality in the fighting. For those who think this, please grow up and try to understand things aren’t like those silly comics book fight scenes when the bad guy gets beat up and no blood appears. This is what to be expected when fighting for your life in a post apocalyptic world. So what a dog gets roughed up here and there. Loved the game and easily game of the year.
