The film wasn't what I expected and although well cast and performed I felt it had a split personality as the film footage flashbacks of the horrors of war had no cohesion with the personal story of Sassoon's life as a gay man in a society very much against homosexuality. I was a little disappointed that no effort was made to show him engaged in any conflict and what made him take a stance against war. A bit too long at the end as well.

I really loved this show, it was quite true to the book and enjoyable and exciting from start to finish.
