SAME GOD embodies the very heart of its subject: Dr. Larycia Hawkins’s controversial but necessary stand, in 2015, against the discriminatory Muslim ban proposed by Donald Trump, an act of, to use her own term, “embodied solidarity”. What the film does exceptionally well is rewrite, from the ground level, a story that was largely misunderstood by the majority of Hawkins’s critics. Through the interviewing of first- and second-person witnesses, SAME GOD gives grace and charity to Dr. Hawkins’s story in a way that honors both her and the love of Christ.
