Jo Ellen Chisholm

Generally, I like Harlen Coben's books. I've seen several of his books made into movies. Some are successful; some are not. This one isn't a good movie. At least it is in English without subtitles necessary. Some of the actors did a really good job--the characters of Marty, some of Kierce, some of the main character lady. But the ending!!!! OK, the surprise switcheroo could have been interesting. But the last few minutes were totally unnecessary and rather poor. It made no sense to show that. It wasn't a good conclusion. And the half-brother's storyline was useless. Why?? What did it add?? Sorry, I was very disappointed.

I have not read the book. But concerning the series, I thought it was both well done and not at all well done. Let me explain: the premise and most of the acting was good. The under-story of the blue diamond was a bit hoaky. I agree that Mark Ruffalo could have been coached a bit more into a French accent. He was all American. Hugh Laurie was supposed to be French too and I bet he could have nailed a French accent. But no such accent was used. Some of the bombing/running scenes looked completely contrived, as I'm sure they were. But there could have been better cinematography. I loved the German young man best. His accent was good. His storyline was excellent. Overall, I might watch it again, but it isn't a favorite.

Ruby Rose is fantastic. Sam, not so much. He LOOKS like he's acting. He isn't fluid; he tries too hard. Just my opinion.

This series is very well made: crime drama mixed with hilarious comedy. The main female character is a hoot, but she's a good detective as well. The main male character, from England, is her perfect foil. LOVE FALLET. Wish I could find it on DVD.
