Alright, so spoiler free review - 4/10 This is without a doubt the worst Marvel Universe movie released to date. The plot is so weak and senseless it nearly brings me to tears. Every single character is so lacking in personality and depth that none of them make any impact at all, including the main character, Captain Marvel. The plot holes and deus ex machina moments actually bring me to tears in despair. The plot-holes, oh god the plot-holes are large enough to drive a fleet of starships through. And then you have the "Villain", or actually, you don't. The struggle seems to be against...nothing. From a story standpoint, there is no struggle for Captain Marvel. She shows up on a scene, quickly dominates the local opposition and moves on. This is supposed to be a "Hero's Journey", Captain Marvels origin story. A struggle and growth as a person. There is none of that. The single most difficult thing Captain Marvel faces is her convenient lack of memories and the angst this causes. Honestly this movie adds nothing to the Marvel Universe, and by all indications is simply setting Captain Marvel up to be a deus ex machina cure all for the Thanos problem in Endgame. Which I dearly hope is not the case. If Captain Marvel has anything but a supporting role, especially after this terrible introduction I will be incredibly disappointed in the writers and directors of Endgame. In the end, you can give this movie a pass and not be missing out at all when Endgame comes out. And you should, because this movie is just painful and disappointing to watch. But, that’s just my opinion.
