Fantastic film. The writers really did their homework on the franchise. I had to restrain myself from yelling when they pulled stunts like Sonic doing the Adventure pose, the snowboarding section being a giant Ice Cap Zone reference, Super Sonic showing up at the end... Honestly, I haven't had this much enjoyment out of a movie in years. Even the acting was on point, though the dialogue was very cheesy, and the story a bit tropey. But it's also a film targeted at children, so I'm not gonna knock it on that. If anything, the digestibility is appreciated, as I didn't watch the original film and thus lacked the context it provided. Honestly, only thing that could make a sequel better is pulling some more music from the games. Would love to hear a few tracks from the Adventure era.

A faithful recreation of Red and Blue Rescue Team, a pair of games my brother and I played in our childhood. It has a lot of fresh new quality of life changes, and the expressiveness of the characters, as well as the rearranged music, breathes fresh life into a classic story. The gameplay changes brought in from later entries also make combat and party composition more intriguing, though the ability to recruit many teammates throughout a single expedition makes early story bosses an absolute cake walk. Rescue Team DX is a faithful recreation through and through though, so don't go in expecting a brand new storyline.
