The series and characters lack depth and content. Even for the main characters, little is told about them and their journey. Instead of the well developed layout of each service member’s story and experience during this time in history that we saw portrayed in The Pacific and Band of Brothers, this series provides more of a cliff notes feel to it and misses out on providing an opportunity for the audience to engage with the characters and the situations that they encountered.
The story also lacks a level of hardship, challenge, and drama that service members in The Pacific and Band of Brothers had to endure day in and day out. The challenges of surviving each day, living in extreme conditions, overcoming and dealing with death and trauma, and just hardship in general is not part of this story. Instead the experience of the story has everyone coming back to a base that’s more like a country club with an upscale bar, fine dining, high level of health care, a population of women to interact with daily, and doughnut trucks. It’s just not the same level of performance in a series when compared to The Pacific and Band of Brothers.
