If it weren't for the bad lighting and audio, I would've given this a 5-star rate.
My thoughts on The Rich Man’s Daughter:
1.This soap opera has a lot of potentials. It is not the usual story we often watch but instead, this focused on the importance of family, recognizing true love and Chinese tradition.
2.The story reflects on how Chinese people value their family name and what they are willing to do to protect its legacy even if other people will get hurt along the way.
3.Aside from Chinese culture, this soap opera also portrays the struggles of the LGBT Community. It didn’t just focus on just a simple same-sex relationship but it also exhibits other LGBT relationships like being with a single mom, being bisexual, and being scrutinized.
4.This show also depicts how difficult it is to be in a relationship people see as repulsive. Hoping someday people will be educated and more accepting.
5.There were unpredictable twists especially Paul’s death.
6. Above all things, the moral of the story is love always wins. Love finds a way to diminish evil. Love will lead you back to the right path, to the right person.
7. Besides Rhian and Glaiza, my favorite characters are the supporting ones like Gloria Romero, Glydel Mercardo and Pauleen Luna. Al Tantay and Paolo Contis were very effective villains. Hands down.
8. Luis Alandy should win the Best Husband Award but for some reason, the character was too unrealistic. No offense meant.
9.Kathrina Halili’s character was implausible too. Even if she chased Althea until the end, I’m still not convinced that they were once a couple. She just acted like a jealous friend but not a lover.
10. Chyna’s character was a bit annoying. She’s always mad. Although I do understand where she’s coming from, but I get tired seeing her in the middle of a mess all the time. She brings negative vibes a lot of times.
11. Despite having an amazing storyline, the cast somehow fell short on some parts in showing what should have been conveyed. Lines were flawless but executed differently. There were so many times that I should have felt the intense love of our main characters but failed.
12. There were a lot of screaming and “ugly cry” that could have been handled differently. It felt that if they argued, it should be shouting in a high pitch. And when they cry, it should always be a sob fest and more shouting.
13. But as the show progresses, I saw a lot of differences in the characters’ acting. There were moments that I can now feel the pain they are trying to establish. Jade and Althea’s moment at Paul’s wake was heart-wrecking. I think, of all the break-ups and fights the two have been through, this was the saddest and most emotional.
14.Credits to Glaiza’s song “Till It’s Time” It was just moving. She has an angelic voice. It’s sad but hopeful just like Jade and Althea’s love story.
15. GMA was very courageous in creating a soap opera with this kind of theme. To be honest, not all people will appreciate this but somehow they were able to pull it off. And that, you all deserve a standing ovation.
16. Overall, I think the show was a success. Why? Because despite the flaws, it still garnered a wide viewership. I still watched it until the end TWICE because the ending was astonishing. I couldn’t think of a better ending than that. No grand gesture, no over-the-top proposal, no wedding ceremony. It was simple but full of real emotions.
