I got to say the most hilarious part of the movie is reading the negative reviews on the movie. Like those silly Australians taking such offense to it is hilarious. The mom who doesn't want her kids subjected to 3 Tasmanian Devils named devil names. Hilarious.
To the negative reviewers. It is a kids movie, it is called plot. To make a plot you have to make a motivation drive for the protagonist to want to do something. To make a meaningful story you have to make the characters relatable and likeable. So yes that means that they don't look 100% real, that they have been changed to look friendly. That it doesn't really matter where their real biome is. It wouldn't make any sense in the story if they had to 5 different regions of Australia.
The story isn't a poor reflection of Sydney's Zoo or the Zookeepers. It is simply a poor reflection of the Show Coordinator at said Zoo and his son who have their own prejudices to work through.
Anyways, the move is pretty funny itself. It has the band of 4 willing and 1 unwilling escape meeting a bunch of other creatures and animals that are feared for what they instead of seen for what they are. Which is a fascinating story of how your convinced perception of something or someone can affect how you view said person. Which you can really expand to racism, sexism, religion, and more. That if you looked past how dangerous some of the creatures are you would see how magnificent they are.
