This is a “Stuck in the Subarbs” remake, except the subarbs go to California. Basically the same plot - two teens, one obsessed with the famous pop star, the other not so much, have a brush with fame and meet said pop star. Pop star has change of heart/attitude, writes a new song, the end. The main character, Jessica, is so moody and angry all the time. She lashes out very quickly at everything. She is never satisfied with anything. Christopher Wilde is a good character, though, who seems fairly well developed for a tv made movie. Overall, plot is predictable, acting is mediocre, and the movie itself is forgettable. The only takeaway would be the singing. The music is decent.

I just watched this for the first time last night. It was good, but definitely dated. The mom and grandma fuss over their girl’s new haircut and criticize her for looking like a boy. She is also yelled at for interrupting her grandmother at the table. There are other, smaller things, but these stuck out the most to me. I also think the twins were too similar. We don’t really see how different they are until about an hour or more in. I feel like Lohan did a better job of showing the differentiations between the twins. I also feel like the 1998 one is more timeless. I am partial to that one, though, as I did grow up with it.
