I only watched this yesterday due to my 17yrs old daughter banging on about this film. From someone who was able to appreciate 1987 (the year the film is set in) I thoroughly enjoyed the nostalgia.
Now if you are expecting an edge of your seat plot with a big twist at the end, I'm afraid to say that you'll be disappointed, as the plot is thin and predictable (you've seen it countless times before). However, if you want a feel good, fun film, where some of the classic rock songs from that decade are cleverly crafted into telling the story, then this is a must watch. There are some well thought out jokes and parodies if you know the music and the era. I personally think that some of the ratings given for this film are a tad harsh especially when I would compare this film in the style of Mama Mia, and for all the raves that film received I thought it was ok. Definitely worth a go and just watch it for what it is. 4.5/5
