If you've seen Halloween 4 you've seen this. But somehow Halloween 4, though more goofy and appearing to be made for less money, is a better film. That's not to say necessarily that Halloween Kills is a bad film but the juxtaposition of trying to recreate the vibe of Carpenter while still having zany side characters get offed in increasingly gruesome ways didn't jive with me. Halloween 78 is a slow burn of a movie that is damn near bloodless. This movie felt more like Rob Zombie's remake without embracing the hillbilly aesthetic which made that film stand apart (for better or worse). Do I recommend it? Sure, but know going in that this is the second part of a planned trilogy and it's no Empire Strikes Back.
