Frankly many will take this movie topically, will want to dismiss, or create excuses of why this is not a good movie based solely on subject matter. You have to watch more than 15 minutes. The movie actually ties itself up well in the last 10 minutes.
I will not label people as racist for that just shallow, insecure and afraid to actually look down the rabbit hole. Frankly unable to look outside of yourself and realize that this world that we all inhabit people perceive and experience different things and just because YOU do not experience such experiences doesn’t mean it still doesn’t happen.
The human emotions in this movie are and should be relatable by everyone, parents of any ethnicity and or skin colour. The situational events may not be relatable to everyone but it’s still plausible to individuals who deal with a certain type of mental exhaustion about being “the face of a race” or other. At the heart it goes to show many sides of intersectionality, it shows many different points of view and perceptions, levels of relatability. This movie is all about perceptions, and emotions, fear, anger, sadness are the three biggest.
For me the movie only reinforced several things I hold true, not every police officer is biased or bad where they shoot unarmed black men at will, there are perceptions and biases that WE ALL HAVE, NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE THE ENEMY, NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE share the same beliefs as you, the training cops receive is inadequate for what their jobs entail, people do not listen to communicate..
just watch the movie give it a chance. Good acting, good story line... just very realistic at the end.
