So disappointing after Gladiator 1. The protagonist, Lucius, is a shadow of Russell Crowe for gravitas, charisma or threat. A few good battle scenes but the rest was too drawn out, and frankly boringly long.
Its time for Ridley Scott to hang up his boots after Napoleon fiasco and now this pale retelling.

I love Lee Mack on TV where he appears natural with an incredible quick wit. In this play, he is reduced to shouting inane lines that are contagious in spreading desperate over acting to the rest of the cast. It was excruciating which added to the discomfort of the £125 seat and a desperation to be let out into the fresh air. I left at the interval with a great gulp of relief.
It was the last day of the play and not a moment too soon.

The play is wonderfully acted - Mark Gatiss is exact in every way as John Gielgud. Johnny Flynn has a good shot at getting the voice of Richard Burton but just misses on the charisma of the man. Well worth seeing.

Very disappointing. Napoleon must have been more charismatic to have achieved what he did. The subject suits a mini series rather than a 2. 5 hour film. It's boring in parts and we don't care enough for any of the characters.

Absolutely awful . It compares itself to Gladiator and it has nothing that comes close . It’s a dotty script with a few excuses for gore . So disappointing !
