This is the kind of movie you can't take your eyes off so not to miss a plot twist. I watched it twice and picked up innuendo I had missed the first go around. As far as the bumbling inspector, I believe he was so absent minded to underscore the fact that no one would would be held accountable for the murder as the Lord had many enemies far and wide
