Let me just start with this: I have been playing COD games for over 10 years. There isn't a COD game that I haven't purchased and played enough to where I cannot review it. This is the first Call of Duty in years I can say that I have enjoyed.
Campaign: 9.5/10
I haven't played every COD campaign in the past, but for whatever reason I decided to try this one. It was honestly well written, incredible graphics, fun to play and educational. As someone who doesn't care about history as much as I know I should, I can say that the campaign was well done. The storytelling is unlike any other single player game I have played and would recommend trying the campaign. The reason it doesn't get a 10 is because the AI sucks.
Multiplayer: 8/10
While the multiplayer isn't the best Call of Duty has had, I really enjoy it. Im starting to get over my hate for SBMM but the main thing that bugs me in the more recent CODs are camping, getting shot in the back, and specifically in this COD overtuned killstreaks. I cannot even express my frustration enough for how overpowered some of the killstreaks are. It ruins the fun when you spawn in and instantly die from one. Don't get me wrong, there is still plenty of camping and getting shot in the back from mediocre map design, but overall it is done better in this COD then the last few.
The gameplay is encouraged to be much faster, I enjoy the slower TTK providing myself at least a semi of a chance when I'm getting shot from 100 different angles and the new ammo type that allows for more diversity and interesting gun builds. The older style of guns are growing on me. The audio is fantastic in this game. Audio sounds better then before and noticeable more in the campaign. Explosions sound more like they are supposed to, gun shots do to, you can better distinguish what guns are being used. Volume for guns are determined by the gun type now, smgs being quieter and shotguns being louder.
Overall, I have enjoyed Vanguard a lot. Map design and gameplay is much better than recent CODs and multiplayer is where the majority of the content is in this game.
Zombies: 3/10
I have thousands, if not 10s of thousands of hours playing zombies in the last 10 years of COD. Doing most Easter Eggs and high round runs, this is where my love for COD has stemmed from. I really thought Cold War had some decent zombies, but nothing will live up to the hype of classic Bo2 zombies. Zombies in this game is an actual joke. There has always been 3 types of mode in COD. Multiplayer, campaign and zombies. They need to get rid of zombies (unless its treyarch) and get creative for a new 3rd game mode. Honestly, bring back extinction from Ghost. Totally underrated. The only reason it gets a 3/10 is because they are at least kind of creative with zombies here. The use of perks are cool and the varying level of mystery box weapons, but the gameplay is utterly boring and unrewarding. It's not fun whatsoever. Gameplay is stale, the map is not creative, and it takes at least an hour before you actually start to get semi challenging. The best move Treyarch should do is get as close as they can back to OG zombies and Sledgehammer and IW need to get a new game mode. It was a nice attempt, but how many times are they gonna try and fail again.
Overall TLDR: 8.5/10
The campaign and the multiplayer is where this game really shines. Zombies is a total fail. Lots of content and fun gameplay with new and improved audio that really makes the game come alive. Awesome graphics and would recommend over the last few COD games that have released.
