I read this in 2nd grade. Stuck with me for sure, because I cried and cried and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Now I’m about to graduate high school, and I still think about how scary this book was! This was very sad and dark. In the year this book was published, people didn’t care if kids were exposed to this kind of thing. Now, it shouldn’t be on the shelves of a 2nd grade classroom. It was scarring and I don’t agree with it. This kid had to deal with the secret of his friend’s death and has to hide it and feel guilty and scared. Not for 8 year olds.
