Since 2007, I have called the United States my home, having moved here from Lagos, Nigeria as an 8-year-old boy. Now, at the age of 24, I have witnessed the pendulum of political ideologies swing from far right to far left. Throughout this journey, one thing has become clear to me: the issue with the LGBTQ+ movement lies in the comfort that Americans enjoy. They have been blessed with consistent running electricity, water, Wi-Fi, excellent infrastructure, and well-maintained roads, among other things. When your environment no longer poses a threat to your survival, you find yourself filling your free time with all sorts of trivial matters.
This remarkable movie perfectly encapsulated the very essence of what I had suspected was wrong with our current political climate. It shed light on an important aspect—people's innate desire to fit in. The lack of attention and feeling of being unseen play a significant role in this issue. When individuals do not feel acknowledged, they may be inclined to join any group or organization that provides them with the attention they crave.
In summary, my experience living in the United States for over a decade, combined with the thought-provoking movie I watched, has reaffirmed my belief that the comfort and abundance Americans enjoy can lead to the emergence of trivial concerns. Furthermore, the human desire to belong and be noticed plays a significant role in shaping our society and political landscape. 10/10.
