I liked the show but Dissociative identity disorder is not written well in this show. DID is not illusions. DID is caused because of PTSD. DID is s usually a reaction to trauma as a way to help a person avoid bad memories . Dissociative identity disorder, previously called multiple personality disorder, is usually a reaction to trauma as a way to help a person avoid bad memories. . Each may have a unique name, personal history and characteristics.(taken from Internet ). There are positive and negative triggers that can cause a switch that is change in personality. The actor i think portrayed what was written in the script well but the script just missed so many marks. ‘Switch’ of the person with DID shown was not due to any trigger. The character switched from one identity to another for no reason.it was done poorly. DID also not does cause hallucinations but a person can have both. But it states that the character only has DID in the show. The identities that people with DID have are very much real. The alters (identities ) andean and Apollo say that they have to go to New York or Olympic gold medallist sounds more of a delusion than someone with DID. People with DID do not have symptoms of delusions or the host or alters are delusional. Alter do have there own memories which aren’t body memories, those are memories not present beliefs that they have kill hitler. The character portrayed has more of schizophrenia which have symptoms of delusion and hallucinations. Dr Hanover tried to hypothesis the patience to know the traumatic events and thinks he can cure after the person knows about it, which is a misconception. DID is not curable disorder. DID is caused by trauma. It is a trauma disorder. Childhood trauma missed with unstable attachment with your primary caregivers as well as innate ability to dissociate can cause DID. As a child the individuals personality hasn’t fully formed and children have several different identity states and because of the trauma these identified states are not able to merge and become one so the person ends with several of them. Now the trauma that happens to an adult cannot cause DID. The time period of the cause of DID is between age 5 to 10. Despite the early onset, adolescents (12-18 years of age) with DID are less than 8% Which is rare. So it is not possible in adults. People with DID are not violent, they are normal people, they are victims. There is a lot of misinformation and stereotypes but I as it is set in 1962 so there were many misconceptions. But they should have there studies because if a first timer watches someone with DID in this show they are going to predict that what is portrayed is true. Pls do research and not blindly believe these shows which spread misinformation.
